Choosing a Camper Refrigerator

When camping out in your RV or camper, a reliable fridge is essential for keeping your food and drinks cold. There are several different refrigerators available for campers and RVs, from residential fridges to absorption models that use propane or electricity. Choosing the right fridge for your camping needs will depend on your space, budget and power source preference.

A 2-way or 3-way refrigerator is a good choice because it can run on AC power (like from shore or generator), DC power and LP gas. This gives you more flexibility for your campsites. However, these refrigerators can take a while to cool because they have no moving parts like compressor-style fridges. Adding an RV fridge fan will help speed up the cooling process.

If your fridge isn’t cooling, first confirm that the fridge circuit breaker is on and that the actual power cord is plugged into its dedicated outlet in the lower exterior fridge access panel. Next, check the fridge door seals and make sure there are no gaps that could let warm air in. Finally, check for signs of a problem with the cooling coils such as a yellow-green powder around the coils and a gurgling noise or smell of ammonia. If any of these are present, it’s time for a call to your RV technician.

If your fridge still isn’t cooling, there may be an issue with the 12-volt coach battery. This could be caused by a dead cell. You can try recharging your fridge battery. If that doesn’t fix the problem, you might need a new one. camper refrigerator
