How to Do a Commercial Lock Change
Commercial lock change is a great way to prevent future burglaries or other types of criminal activities at your business. It can also prevent trespassers from coming into your office and getting away with valuable items such as laptops or essential documents for your company. If you are experiencing a break-in at your business, it’s important to act immediately by contacting a licensed commercial locksmith to have the locks replaced.
When changing the lock, you will want to make sure that you are using a high-grade security lock. These types of locks have built-in anti-picking protections as well as features that will stop bump keys or drilling attacks. You may also want to consider upgrading your lock with a keyless entry system that will prevent unauthorized access by letting you unlock the door with your phone or even your finger.
The first thing you will need to do is take the existing faceplate off of the door. Depending on the type of lock that you have, this may involve removing 3 or more faceplate screws. Then you will need to remove the mortise lock cylinder from the door’s latch stile. This will require you to loosen two black set screws that press against the cylinder.
Once you have removed the cylinder from the latch stile, look inside of the housing of the cylinder for a small tab. Push this tab with your flat-head screwdriver and the cylinder will discharge from the housing.
