During the IVF process, medicines are given to spur the growth of sacs in each ovary that contain an egg. Then, a procedure is done to retrieve the eggs. Complications from this step, called egg retrieval, can include damage to the uterus or to the tubes that carry urine (a condition called tubal infertility). This may be a problem for people with a history of pelvic disease such as uterine fibroids, endometriosis or polycystic ovary syndrome.
